Developed as a public service by leading physicians and educators in emergency care at the University of Washington and King County EMS, the Resuscitate application provides instant information on how to perform CPR, operate four commonly available Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and how to aid a choking victim. These are short video demonstrations (about 1 minute) and are compatible with the latest recommendations from the major international resuscitation organizations including the American Heart Association and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).

This application is not a substitute for proper training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, AED or choking aid but it is very useful for a quick review. We urge everyone to receive formal instruction in CPR/AED and how to assist a choking victim--being trained may help you save a life. More information on CPR/AED and choking aid may be found at learncpr.org and learnaed.org.

The videos were produced with the assistance of the University of Washington, the Life Sciences Discovery Fund, the Medic One Foundation, King County Emergency Medical Services, the Seattle Fire Department, the Laerdal Foundation for Acute Medicine and the Heart Rescue Medtronic Foundation. They, like us are convinced that teaching these life saving techniques to as many people as possible will save lives.

Go ahead. Download the app, share it with your friends, help people get trained.

Pros and cons of Resuscitate! CPR AED & Choking app for iPhone and iPad

Resuscitate! CPR AED & Choking app good for

Informative, but not overwhelming. Video to guide the caregiver. Thank you!
This app is very helpful for lay rescuers. I am AHA certified instructor for over 20 years. I frequently teach Family and Friends CPR. I always show this this app at the end of class and recommend they download it for backup in case of emergency. To address a previous comment. The only rescuers who perform pulse checks are medical professionals. That component was removed for the lay rescuers many years ago. As for mouth to mouth, if one is performing on a family member they usually are not uncomfortable using that method. On older children and adults "Hands Only" is perfectly acceptable.
To address a previous comment ... ALGORITHMS ... Really?! How is the average person having a picnic at the park supposed to diagnosis & treat that?!? Im almost positive this app is NOT intended for cardiologists or the nursing staff of the cardiac wing at a hospital! Its irresponsible jabs that bring down GOOD apps b/c people see a low rating and skip over a very nice app for something else!
This video is helpful for the LAY rescuer. The AHA standards for Lay Rescuers (i.e. Family and Friends CPR) does *not* inculde pulse checks. This is a decent app.....it is not intended for medical professionals and should not be held to that standard. As for Mouth to Mouth, that is optional for adults and is recommeded for infants and children.

Some bad moments

The one problem I have with this is the CPR. I was so disappointed I didnt continue on. 3 things are most important, ABCs Airway- is it open or occluded? Breathing - Are they breathing? Circulation - do they have a pulse... Checked at the carotid artery. Something this application totally missed. Would you start compressions on a person with a pulse. Children less the 50. The rest of the video was ok. Pulse means the heart is pumping. Support breathing. ABCs are the key. Basic BLS
Great areas for review, but the videos are not playing. CPR is needed for this app and more testing before release
Every time I choose the CPR menu option, the app crashes. Hope nobody dies from this.
Used it once. It played a video for CPR. Then the second time I went to it to show a friend, in case I needed CPR, it went to a black blank screen. Not very good. Too bad.
I doubt this adheres to current aha standards. The demonstrators in the video forgot a pretty important step at the very beginning, they didnt check for a pulse before initiating CPR. They just checked for a response from the victim. They also demonstrated the use of mouth to mouth for breathing which puts the rescuer at danger of being exposed to pathogens and other nasty stuff the victim may have.
Why put out junk for life saving info? Where is unconscious croaking or algorithms? Info is lacking many steps, like checking scene. Shame on you
